Jenna Ashcraft, Ashcraft Designs

Jenna Ashcraft began fostering her love for glass in 2011 while working in sales at the Asheville Glass Center in Asheville, North Carolina. She was drawn to the flame shop and explored torch working as a hobby for years, accruing knowledge from fellow artists and solo experimentation.

In 2017 she received a scholarship to Penland School of Crafts for flame working. This formal education was the foundation which led to the subsequent launch of her business, Ashcraft Glass.

Jenna currently makes her work out of a shared studio space in Asheville, developing her growing line of jewelry. Her work presents a balance of geometric form with an array of color to encapsulate the ethereal nature of glass.

Jenna is one of three flame-working artists that Hearth currently represents.

Jenna’s Process: Flameworking

Flameworking, also called torchworking, is a process using a table top torch to melt and manipulate rods of glass.

Jenna a type of glass called Borosilicate, which is often referred to as “hard glass.” It is a durable material that allows her to create varying sizes of work that remain lightweight and wearable.

Borosilicate, also known as Pyrex, has a high melting point, and is resistant to thermal shock. It is the choice glass used for cookware, scientific purposes, pipes, and sick heady jewelry.
